What should I do in New York?

Hey, I'm hoping to be visiting New York during the week of July 4th! Does anyone want to suggest things for me to do? I can handel the museum angle, but I also feel like I need to go to some sort of theatrical production, and am at a bit of a loss as to where to start. And is there anything else particularly New York-y I should do? Also, anyone interested in possibly letting me sleep on their floor for a night or two? Or want to help me find Pete's crazy-ass bar? Or just meet up for coffee/dinner/food item of your choice?

Yes, exactly! He just lives and breathes music and it's fantastic and makes me feel less stupid about how giddy his band makes me. He's all about the music that so many people love that no one remembers where it came from.
