Random HALP: finding a book I read as a kid

Hey you guys, is there a LJ comm for finding those books you can't remember the title or author of, specifically kids books?

It was kind of similar to Ballet Shoes by Noel Streitfield, but of more recent vintage. Pink cover, set in England, possibly set during the mid-1900s? It was about a young girl who lived with her older relative/grandmother, I think she was an orphan, maybe something about a tragic accident, I'm not sure if I'm conflating several different books or not on that one. Her grandmother and/or mother had been a famous dancer? I forget the girls name, but she was described as having dark hair. She was a ballet dancer, and was eventually accepted to the Royal Ballet school, or something? There were two or three books that followed her adventures over the years. I think they were written sometime in the 70s or 80s, because the paperbacks were in good condition but not new when I got them from my library as a kid in the early 90s. There was something about red ballet shoes, possibly special for a performance that she was in, but there was maybe also something about shoes that had belonged to the dead mother.

Stupid google hasn't managed to find it for me yet. Probably because I can't remember anything useful about it.

I totally know what you're talking about I borrowed them from one of my Scottish cousins back in the day. There was a whole series, she even eventually got married. I want to say the girl's name started with D. Argh. *goes googling too*

Aha! It was Drina. Here's the first one, Ballet for Drina on amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Ballet-Drina-No-1/dp/0590421905 but you can find a LOT more on amazon.co.uk if you search for the author, Jean Estoril. I actually preferred the Ballet Twins and Ballet Family books.

Well, like I said I recognized the series and then all it took was typing in "ballet fiction" to Google and seeing if anything twigged. The Drina books came up right away!

Mine has the first five (they're still in really good shape, I think they're a re-print from the early 90's, I seem to remember them getting 'the new book' when I was a kid). I don't know if the following books were ever even translated to Finnish.

Try inter-library loans for the others? You might be able to find them for a read.
