Hey you guys, is there a LJ comm for finding those books you can't remember the title or author of, specifically kids books?
It was kind of similar to Ballet Shoes by Noel Streitfield, but of more recent vintage. Pink cover, set in England, possibly set during the mid-1900s? It was about a young girl who lived with her older relative/grandmother, I think she was an orphan, maybe something about a tragic accident, I'm not sure if I'm conflating several different books or not on that one. Her grandmother and/or mother had been a famous dancer? I forget the girls name, but she was described as having dark hair. She was a ballet dancer, and was eventually accepted to the Royal Ballet school, or something? There were two or three books that followed her adventures over the years. I think they were written sometime in the 70s or 80s, because the paperbacks were in good condition but not new when I got them from my library as a kid in the early 90s. There was something about red ballet shoes, possibly special for a performance that she was in, but there was maybe also something about shoes that had belonged to the dead mother.
Stupid google hasn't managed to find it for me yet. Probably because I can't remember anything useful about it.
