I finally remembered the thing I was going to post about. I know you are super excited! I got a new Diva Cup! That is, a new medical-grade silicone menstrual cup! I've been using the same Diva Cup since ~2006, and I decided it was time for a replacement. About 7 years out of one $35 cup? At 25 days per cycle that's ~102 periods working out to ~$0.34 per period! Or ~$0.07 per day of bleeding! Good job self!

They have definitely redesigned the cups a time to two since I bought mine. It is now made of a much softer more pliable silicone, which makes it a lot easier to get in. The part where is is a little less smooth in texture concerns me a bit. They've also made the holes at the rim (the bits that create the little bit of suction that holds it in palace) much larger and thus easier to clean. I really appreciate that part. They also made the stem/handle thingie much softer and unobtrusive. I don't think I'll have to trim it off this one.

Hilariously, their recommendation has changed from "you can keep using it for years!" to "you can do what you want, but we have to recommend replacement after one year now for liability reasons". We will see how well the new one holds up, but I'm gunning for at least another 5! They now also really want you to buy their special soap 'to prevent irritation' and the list of non-recommended things is hilariously long and covered in things I've used to clean my cup multiple times. I guess people suck at rinsing soap off? Or they need another revenue stream? IDK guys, my castille soap or non-antibacterial dish soap seem to have done the trick.

I'm procrastinating going to bed, even though going to bed late is going to undo all the great napping I did this afternoon, but whatever.

I did want to talk about this summer's movies, and how I've actually seen a surprising number of them, despite working my ass off on field work for 4 months. I saw:

- Star Trek: INTO DARKNESSSSSSS
Actually pretty entertaining, for the most part. I think my favorite was the scene(s) from the trailer, which were BEAUTIFUL and hysterical.

- Gatsby
Really really lovely, but ... maybe a little too true to the atmosphere of the books? Also, Leo hitting on Carey Mulligan was TOTES CREEPY. Also, Toby Maguire's face just bothers me to infinity. But Carey was ultra-charming as Daisy, and I though did a wonderful job of bringing an often unsympathetic character who is basically there to be a manic pixie girl for Gatsby. inmyriadbits and I also spent a lot of time talking about how really homoerotic the relationship between Nick Carroway and Gatsby was in this adaptation, although nearly entirely one-sided? It was interesting. Despite having a ton of stuff to say about it (apparently), I didn't come away from it loving it as much as I wanted to.

- Pacific Rim
ROBOTS. PUNCHING. SEA MONSTERS. Also, The Mary Sue had some really great stuff to say about gender roles, but all I can say is that as a person who generally is willing to suspend disbelief as high and long as necessary and never really notices the quality of acting, the dude who played Raleigh (sp?) was SO TERRIBLE. Like. I just couldn't find anything he did to be terribly compelling. The closest he came was when he confronted SPOILER about SPOILER. But otherwise, I loved the cheesyness of it. I loved the world-building, and I am super stoked to read a million Jaeger-pilot AU's in ALL THE FANDOMS!

- Elysium (TOMORROW)

Somehow, I thought there was another, but I'm probably thinking of Much Ado About Nothing with Clark Gregg, which I think I've missed on the big screen, tragically.

There are a bunch of other movies I would love to see, but free time is scarce a lot of the time. ONE DAY. Until then, I'm just going to mainline episodes of Dog Whisper on Hulu.

I started reading Teen Wolf.

I just got a GOLDEN email from Delicious. They are focused on 'simplifying the Delicious website' and as such are 'consolidating stacks and tags' IE THEY ARE KILLING THE STACKS BECAUSE 'we realized the value of stacks is limited for our users moving forward.'

NO FUCKING SHIT WAY TO CATCH A RIDE ON THE CLUE TRAIN A YEAR LATER.

My personal favorite bit:

● All stacks will be converted automatically into tags. Stack titles will transition into new tag names, and will be applied to all links currently in a stack.

● Stack-specific descriptions, categories, comments, link order, and stack followers will not be included as part of the migration.

FEET-KICKING-LY PERFECT.

I.... have a lot of feelings. And a lot of things to tell you. But here is the important part.

1) I did NOT get into a random flamewar over nothing in someone elses journal, even if they were Wrong On The Internet And In Real Life. Gold star for me.

2) katieupsidedown and I are drinking and watching Iron Man 1. We are drinking every time Tony drinks, and assuming all his coffees are Irish.

( FEELINGS ) Next time we do this, I'm liveblogging all my Feelings. Also, we're drinking absinthe/other straight(ish) liquor, apparently. There's an option on the second one, for the purposes of getting wasted during the party scene, if we can still work the DVD player at that point. You're all invited.


3) I am just the correct amount of a little bit drunk. It is super-good for me.

4) My job is a thing. ( A big, time-suck of a thing )

If like most people I've seen, you hates the new LJ cut scissors bullshittery precious, I have a solution for you, courtesy of pinboard/xylodemon.

There are probably some exceptions/wonkyness that always comes with these kinds of hack-arounds, but it should work for even free accounts using S2.

You just have to C&P this bit of CSS into the custom CSS spot and you get the old kind of cuts back!

Today is a really exciting day. Today, katieupsidedown and I get (foster) kitties! But that doesn't happen until Katie brings them home tonight.

Until then, I get to go to work.

Instead of working, I finally figured out a thing I've seen circulating, which is "Who Google Things You Are", which I kept hearing about, but never with any sort of explanation or link. Finally, I know all about it!

And here's the maybe-cool thing: Google? Doesn't think I'm anyone. Or maybe it would be more accurate to say it doesn't know anything about me. My interests? Blank. Demographics? None.

\o/? I mean, it probably knows that all 20 of my gmail addresses are a single person. And it probably, in some deep dark server somewhere knows something about who I am and what I'm interested in. But publicly? Nada.

So anyway. Thanks, Ghostery! And probably also thanks to Adblock Plus. They individually and combined do break my internet sometimes, but now seem more than worth it.

ETA: I use Ghostery on Firefox all the time, but don't have it on my ipod (obviously) where I am a 25-34 yr old Male with an intrest in Games - Puzzles & Brainteasers.

I'm not a huge fan of the new default comment page look, but I really wouldn't care one way or another if the damn thing actually WORKED. There are far too many reports of people having to go to arcane lengths to actually comment on anything. And it does legit make giant communities like kinkmemes really fucking hard to navigate. I hope they all switch over to DW (or apparently people are still switching to IJ sometimes?).

Anyway, Dreamwidth has opened up signups through the end of the month (ie, no invite code required). Importing is super easy (if somewhat currently backlogged), and crossposting is pretty easy. You can even do a ticky that posts a link on your DW entry to the x-posted LJ post so people can easily click over, and there is a little footer you hca have automatically posted on every x-post to LJ (see the bottom of this entry!). And word on the street is that they are setting up a system to do community imports asap as well. And if you decide you want to switch after open signups close, I have like a million invites, or you can get them at dw_codesharing.

Because I make really good choices when drunk, I decided to walk home instead of going and finding a bus to take me home (bike still not quite 100% functional).

This turned out to be an actualfax good choice, because just north of campus, I saw something flitting around in the trees, and it turned out to be an owl.

I took several pictures!

But I'm not going to show you them because I am too tired (and still kinda drunk) to actually make the effort. Maybe tomorrow.
