omgsuchaweekend!

So, yeah. I went to two Cobra shows this weekend, and it was pretty fucking sweet, if exhausting. I went to the Friday show in Austin and the Saturday show in Houston. Both were awesome, in their own way. The crowd was a bit better in Austin, but the venue was far superior in Houston. And I still don't understand why teenies a) DON'T MOVE to the music, especially with bands like these and b) are completely incapable, individually or collectively, of just planting their fucking feet so as to not get shoved everyfuckingplace. But mostly I think they're a little bit adorable, because n'awww. They're doing what they're supposed to be doing at that age, I think. All the things I didn't do and am now doing to make up for lost time, only with more booze. Anyway.

I saw/met a TON of lovely fan-people, all of whom I found via canadiankracka, and who let me hang and made room for me on the couch for some Life On The Murder Scene and Panic! DVD watching, and were kind enough to let me crash on their hotel room floor so I didn't have to try and drive back that night. I was delighted to find out that there's an extensive Texan fan contingent, it seems, many of whom may show up in Austin in a few weeks to see the Cab at SXSW. (Which I am V. EXCITED ABOUT, SO MANY BANDS TO STALK, ALSO, OVER MY SPRING BREAK!) [and despite my attempts to the contrary, I've COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN almost everyone's lj name, though most folks seem to have been able to fine me, so. HI! I was the one wearing (in order, but not simultaneously) the black long sleeved shirt with the gold stripes, the white short-sleeved shirt with yellow fleur-de-lis tank over, and the leave me alone shirt at breakfast. And driving the little green car.]

Driving back was something of an ordeal, because I was(am) still pretty tired, but I cranked up MCR and sang along at the top of my lungs and bought a bottle of water at the Slowest Gas Station Checkout Ever, and I didn't die, so I'm counting that one as a win.

*deep breath* And that's how my weekend was! The only downside is that I seem to have lost one of my little black star earrings, but worse has happened, and I'm pretty sure the internet or someone can hook me up with a similar pair, what with all things emo still somewhat in fashion.

And I have the most adorable post-breakfast fangirl pile picture consisting of sixwhitelies, sunn_doyouknow, canadiankraka, and someone who I'm 99% certain is txtequilanights. I don't want to post w/o asking, 'cause I know folks don't like that, but if you want the pic, I can email it!

And in other awesome news, I LOVE frontgate tickets, because they mail you your ticket RIGHT AWAY, so I now have my MCR ticket in my hot little hands, as well as my Panic ticket for Austin. \o/ And apparently the Used is going to the same venue? I'm actually kind of curious to see them live. And LADYTRON is going to be there in June! *loves austin*

I've mentioned that I like talking a lot, right? Also, LOTS of semi-large pictures. I just realized I picked the wrong compression settings, so the files are a bit bigger than they should be. Sorry! I'll probably be anal and redo them later, but not now.

Slightly less gleeful: The preview for Panic!'s new video both intrigues and repels me. I guess we'll see. I guess I'm just completely WTF on the whole PORN+MIMES equation. Oh RyRo, your brain is a scary scary place.

Semi-Fannish Things I Did This Weekend:

- I got the movie Closer from netflix, because these boys seemed to be spouting off about it left and right, and wow. Maybe I'm just waaaaay too much of a bio major, or I'm too pragmatic, or too bored by dramaramma, or too something, but that was a completely lame movie. I mean, I can see why boys of their age and temperament would like it (Natalie Portman in stripper gear, anyone?), but... yikes. ETA: Also, the line (in both the movie and FOB song) "he tastes like you only sweeter" now has a whole new (gay-er) significance. I don't know what I was thinking it meant, but... yes. That was .. unexpected.

- I read the Rolling Stone Panic! interview. ( I was a good time. )

Also, there was an Infinity On High review in this issue, which reminded me why I like and hate music magazines. Like, because it's nice to listen to people talk about music. Hate, because OMG PRETENSION SHUT YOUR FACE OLD GUY AND LEAVE US YOUNGUNS TO OUR CRAZY MODERN MUSIC. It made my face hurt the way the reviewer spent 9/10ths of the article talking about how much some people hate Pete and trying to pretend he wasn't one of those people. Dude. Shut your face, and tell me what you think about the music. Jerk.

Some things really improve with time. Or possibly by knowing (kindasorta) who those people are. But anyway. The music video for Snakes On A Plane is awesomecakes. Significant Looks are Exchanged! (often after the word fuck!) Maja is more smokin' than bruning green wood! Pete makes a 2 second cameo! ON A PAYPHONE!! (no, really, that's the best. thing. ever!) I LOVE THESE KIDS AND THEIR INCESTUIOUS CROSSOVERY-NESS!

I'm not going to lie, I'm a little sad to find out that they are not actually all in a band together. On the other hand, if they were all in a band together, it would be too much HOT, and the world would explode, so I guess it's for the best, really.
