getting in while the getting is good.
Dec. 17th, 2010 02:28 amIf anyone has missed the news: Delicious is probably getting axed. No word on when, but I have exported my bookmarks while the getting is good.
Alternatives that I have checked out:
Diigo: kind of overkill, maybe, but archives copies of your bookmarks, which is kind of cool. Interface is excessively THERE, but they have good free options, and perhaps most importantly, a business plan that involves not just advertising (which they do have, but I don't see as I use AdBlock on everything) and you can pay to get rid of the advertising and also get other features. They also don't seem to have any way to subscribe to tags, just people, but idk, I maybe just haven't found it yet. They also have groups, which could be cool.
Zootools: very pretty, but I'm not really sold on the functionality. So far, this is the only one that has a status update for my import. Feels very Mac-ish, which is both good and bad. Haven't found any tag-type subscription options, but I think you can follow people. ETA: it seems to disallow punctuation in tags, and it does that thing that delicious started doing that I hate that makes the tag field a non-text box. ie, once you've made your tag, you have to know the secret key shortcut to edit, or delete the entire tag and start over. /o\
MrWong: import kind of confusing, something about taking up to two days to validate my import? idk. seems semi-spammer infested, but idk. Also, randomly some of the pages seem to be in German for me. I've poked around this one the least.
I haven't really checked out Pinboard, because their whole 'pay to get started' thing irritates me, and I don't like how it goes UP. On the other hand, it is probably the cleanest and most delicious-like of all the options.
