Dear LJ, YOU ARE MADE OF FAIL. no love, me
For those who are unaware: LJ has decided to 'clarify' their position of stuff they don't like; namely obscene child porn? It's kind of hard to tell. First post here and second 'clarifying' post here.
On the one hand, I can appreciate that they can' give firm answers, because the topics they are dealing with are so damn fuzzy. On the other hand, as someone who has given them a bunch of money, it kind of pisses me the fuck off. Also, the timing is shady as hell. Actually, the timing would always be terrible, so never mind.
Not that I actually expect to go anywhere anytime soon, but as always, I'm clare_san on greatestjournal and fandomclare on insanejournal, for relocation/finding purposes. Also, I'm going to start collecting alternate journals to peeps on my flist under the alt.journal on my delicious. In the event that anyone needs to know.
And it also seems to be a good time for a partial version of that NON-ELJAY FANDOM RESOURCES thing I was thinking about doing. Basically, I want to give people places to post/host/backup their fic. Eljay is awesome, but there are ways to get around them being douchebags. Like posting your 'obscene content' NOT on their servers.
- If you have a google account, you can use Google Pages to host basic webpages. I have no idea what their policy on anything is, but you can make a webpage via them. They've got lots of templates and whatnot, and it's pretty idiot-proof, for those who don't know any HTML.
-
geneli4 hosts her fic at sitesled.com. It's a free webhost (with very minimal advertising), for people who do know HTML, or are interested in learning. It looks like they have a bunch of good tutorials for people who are just getting started.
- And as always, there is Geocities and their ilk (google free webhost, and you'll get a million places to post things on the internets).
- Greatestjournal and Insane Journal look like the two most popular alternate journaling sites. There are also the more traditional 'blog' options like Blogger and WordPress. Also, like webhosting, there are a million different options.
- And lastly, I have webspace, with a fuckton of bandwith and diskspace, and I am totally willing to set anyone who wants it up with their own subdomain and login, for fic, media, and/or blog hosting purposes.
